SINGAPORE ON THE BRINK

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong:

“whatever events may have sparked the  rioting, there is no excuse for such violent, destructive, and criminal  behaviour.”    “We will spare no effort to identify the culprits and deal with them with  the full force of the law,”.

It appears that the cloak of Singapore’s manufactured and artificial meritocracy (Sinocracy), its image of respectability and racial harmony is slowly but surely coming apart at the seams.

The pressures of maintaining that artificial, cosmetic facade of racial stability and ‘harmony’ in the face of growing assaults on its ‘ordered’ society’, by a rising tide of the re ordered international socio economic change, appears too great to for the tiny state to bear.

This “showcase” of “Asian values and economic prosperity” is struggling to maintain its carefully crafted, artificial image of a fair and prosperous society. That veneer of ‘respectability’ now peels away in the heat of a human experiment gone wrong. Exposing itself the world and its people is an ugly,inhumane, industrial machine at work in the background.

The social infrastructure favouring one race (Chinese) over others without proper justification is crumbling.

Singapore has held together that ‘ordered society’ with the glue of punitive sanctions, threats of force, force and intimidation for decades. That system  appears to have bred a new generation of Singaporeans immune to the threats of force and intimidation often wielded by the state apparatus. Those same tools of oppression in the hands of the oppressed are now weapons of liberation and change. Intimidation and force as appeared on the streets of “Little India” (for the moment) is the language of order for Singapore’s government now adopted by its oppressed. The government is reacting. Its is a dialogue engaging the vernacular of violence and intimidation.

ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE (A PUNISHMENT) SEEK AND YOU SHALL FIND (A SCAPEGOAT AND STEREOTYPES)

Earlier this year Singapore deported with unholy haste 29 bus drivers (guest labourers) back to the mainland China. Their crime? Striking for better working conditions. The leader of the strike was jailed for 7 weeks. These were all ethnic Chinese (of the lesser variety if you asked a Singaporean).

“Human Rights” activists and “Civil Societies” supported by the US and George Soros have remained mute in the face of this riot. Singapore is their idea of the modern Asian state. A compliant population, unquestioning, highly programmed and malleable, profitable for some and ruthlessly efficient in the suppression of human rights. Especially the human rights of the non Chinese variety.

First generation Singaporeans have nothing but contempt for their imported workforce especially if these workers are from neighbouring countries. A common Singaporean insult is this: “you must be from China”.

Alcohol is blamed for the recent ‘rioting’ in “Little India”. Not Singapore mind you but “Little India”. A hint of where this is leading to. Yet alcohol which is relatively expensive in Singapore is more widely consumed by its middle classes and expatriates than by the minuscule south Asian communities of Singapore.

In fact alcohol consumption in Singapore on a per capita basis is as high as that of Australia’s. And it is not the south Asian communities, insignificant in their numbers in Singapore, who are responsible for the volume of its consumption. But the point here is a racial one. Indians and alcohol = rioting and anti social behaviour. It fits in with the other stereotyping in a state where the two non Chinese races are concerned.

A HUMAN DIMENSION TO SINGAPORE INC. EMERGES FROM THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC MELTDOWN

With Thailand to its north on the boil, Malaysia now relatively quiet, having contained Singapore’s stirring of its political pot and the effects of the world economic downturn yet to be fully disclosed to Singaporeans, the government there through its Prime Minister continues to regurgitate and espouse the tired old rhetoric of priorities  of his state in the face of this unfolding human tragedy:

Human suffering and basic human rights last, property and the island state’s image of law and social order first.

The media carries a story about a riot in “Little India” on 9 December 2013. That story and any information about it will be contained and sanitized in every which way but……if Singapore’s government has its way.

The prime minister has vowed swift and harsh retribution against these ‘offenders’. But little or no mention is made of the victim, or the circumstances in which he met his end under a bus which precipitated the riot.

There is not even a cursory “my condolences to his family” or a “promise to get to the bottom of it” nor a “promise to investigate the root causes of what it is that created a flash riot in such circumstances”.

It is all about maintaining an image, reinforcing perceptions and firewalling against the economic effects of the truth behind the Singaporean ‘miracle’ now being exposed to the world. It always was and the government hopes it always will be the case that the myth of this illusory Singapore will sustain it into the future.

And there are those who support such an ideological position amongst Singaporeans. It is a manifestation of the contempt with which first generation Singaporeans treats those they consider a lesser breed. Migrant workers vulnerable to the core with limited or no rights whilst on the island.

WE ARE ALL EQUAL (TO OUR BANK BALANCE)

As the world readies itself to bury the mortal remains of the late Nelson Mandela, Singapore reminds us that the legacy of Mandela may also be buried with him if no one acts to correct the many hidden truths about Singapore’s miracle economy and that of its neighbours. There is a cost to their prosperity and the rest of us know little about it.

Singapore has long housed the scum of this world in its midst.Providing these wealthy imports behave themselves Singapore style whilst in Singapore, there will always be a welcome mat out for them.

Whether it is joint venturing with the late Lo Hsin Han, the ethnic Chinese narcotics producer and warlord in Myanmar, or supplying and turning a blind eye to Tamil Tiger ventures (supplying the RDX that was used to assassinate Rajiv Gandhi), banking the murderous Suharto regime, despite his pogroms against the Chinese, money conquers all in Singapore Inc. Singapore is always ready to welcome  money and the monied.

Only recently has Singapore appeared to suffer a slight pang of conscience when it refused to accommodate the commercial interests of deposed Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. There is more to that decision than pangs of conscience and that which meets the eye. But it did not bat an eye lid when it accepted the late Malayan banking chief as a resident after the man  Khoo Teck Phuat swindled the Sultan of Brunei out of many hundreds of millions of dollars in the 1980’s.

Singapore is a great and gracious host if you have the money. Lots of it. However it has no capacity to boast of  in terms of the welfare of its population of robots who often fall between two stools. And there are many indeed amongst them.

Singaporeans and their government have no capacity for compassion, viewing it as a weakness rather than a strength and a virtue. They suffer from a distorted and confused interpretation of Confucianism. Their troubled citizens and residents fall out of high rise buildings or riot as a means and a way out of their emotional, economic and psychological stresses. And Singapore breeds much of that. Problems created by the state and its Kia Su mentality.

RIOTING NOT A NEW FORM OF EXPRESSION IN SINGAPORE

Rioting  and unsocial behaviour is not a new phenomenon in Singapore. Neither is the rising tide of violent and drug induced crimes. Suppressing it is an art form government there excels in. It is part of the social dialogue, an integral part of the vocabulary of government and an integral part of the bond between citizen and state.

Mini riots have long plagued modern Singapore for decades. For convenience this phenomenon is often classed as gang fights, ‘hartals’ and anything else but a riot. People living in the depressingly congested ‘housing commission flats that literally bar them in their homes (iron bars on doors and windows),  show signs of the effects of this existence on their daily lives. Many suffer from a siege mentality  rude and suspicious of anyone but the closest of friends and relatives. The many social restrictions and prohibitions placed on them by the state does little to help this behaviour.

The idea of cramming large numbers of migrant workers in inhumane degrading conditions, sleeping in turn in bunks and crammed floor space in converted shipping containers appears to be acceptable humane living conditions for south Asians by Singapore’s standards.

There are many of these  so called  workers quarters (camps) scattered throughout the islands industrial estates out of sight of tourists. They are guarded day and night by Nepalese and Chinese guards controlling every entry and exit point keeping watch on every movement of residents in these camps.

Such an existence forced upon these desperate and powerless workers is apparently the state’s idea of what a human being from south Asia ought to be satisfied with in Singapore. There are few if any avenues for complaints or procedures for dissatisfied workers to access justice against oppressive Singaporean employers, their government or their sub human living and working conditions.

Psychologists have long warned of the dangers of allowing such situations and conditions to exist and develop alongside the affluence of the employer classes whilst at the same time suppressing reasonable dissent. They have warned that these are breeding grounds for trouble. And trouble it is that Singapore is breeding.

Suppressing dissent, freedom of expression, bullying and ill treatment of helpless workers and denial of their basic rights may escape the eye of the government and local media but not for long.

Singapore denies that mini riots have occurred in dormitories where foreign low paid workers are housed in their industrial estates. The definition of a riot has somewhat changed and the class of  crime and statistical evidence of crimes and riots arising from oppressive conditions for these workers also conveniently air brushed to preserve the island states clean and fair image.

THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM, AN EXCUSE FOR MASS RETRENCHMENTS AND EXPULSIONS

This “Little India” incident may give Singapore the opportunity to now get rid of a problem it has been struggling with of late.That problem is its imported labour, the bane of many first generation Singaporeans.

Singapore’s population and its demographic today is another example of Neo Nazi, Apartheid style experimenting in social engineering, using humans they consider  lesser people as their guinea pigs. And they have the support of their first generation population. Mute and compliant.

An estimated 38% of Singapore, by some statistics, consist of imported labourers. The wretched, the cold, the displaced and the hungry.Many the by product of foreign labour scams and people smugglers. But who cares?  These are not first generation Singaporeans. Mostly not rich Chinese. They are vulnerable, disposable and dispensable commodities. And if there is a dollar to that misery then it’s a virtue in Singaporean terms. First generations have been abandoning their island state for “greener pastures” like Australia and the US only to discover its not  all milk and honey on the other side.

GLOBAL ECONOMIC DOWNTURN, BOGEYMEN AND FOREIGN EXPEDITIONS IN STREET RIOTS

The reality of the global economic  recession conveniently swept under the carpet by many industrialised nations is beginning to rear its ugly head from under that carpet and starting to bite in places as far away as Singapore.

Singapore desperately needs to shed its imported labour force. Many will be without work soon. the government may claim otherwise  in denial and there may be some truth to their denials. But since when did the Singapore government let the truth get in the way of a good profitable political ideological statement devoid of any human considerations?

Singapore is now faced not only with a world focus on its pathetic treatment of its imported labour force, it is also having to come to terms with a changing world it has been this far insulated from with its large foreign reserves and small population. There is also a non compliant and suppressed Muslim volcano waiting to erupt in its midst.

SILENT KNIGHTS

Keen till recently to support an anti Malay coalition in Bersih and Anwar Ibrahim in Malaysia and to regurgitate and reinforce an anti Islamic coalition of the west in the region, it remains to be seen whether the chickens have finally come to roost on this mission.  It would be more interesting indeed to see how Singapore interprets what is fundamentally a class and race riot of the dispossessed in ‘little India, as Bersih claimed to be supporting in Malaysia (which Singapore supported).

Organizations like Transparency International and its corruption perception indexes will have to back peddle very fast in the wake of these riots to adjust their latest published index to accommodate the emerging truths of the image of a clean state they helped to create.

It appears that Singapore is indeed headed for interesting times.
