This is the first in a 2 part series about the challenges UMNO faces after GE 14 and the background to the people seeking to take control of it.
3 COINS IN A FOUNTAIN- 2 OF THEM BENT
“The devil does not come dressed in a red cape and pointy horns. He comes disguised as everything you’ve hoped for”
The man they call KuLi, real name Tunku Razaleigh Hamzah, recently made a remark about the politics of money; “Take the money but reject the giver.” His comments an oblique reference to the myth that corruption is a one-way street, a one-man crime, is a sad indictment of the man and his personal morality.
He should more appropriately have said instead “take the money but kill the witness.” Such a comment would reflect KuLi’s alleged involvement in the unresolved murder of auditor Jalil Ibrahim. KuLi’s credentials as politician include his cruel betrayal of his late wife Yvonne. He humiliated her whilst keeping company with Chinese mistresses supplied to him by his buddies from Anderson High School. More troubling is his deep though well-concealed involvement in the Bank Bumi Finance (BBF) & the Maminco scandals. But that’s small potatoes in the politics of Mahathir era UMNO.
KuLi and Mahathir may not have wrapped the chord around Jalil Ibrahim’s fragile neck strangling him to death. But what they did and failed to do makes them complicit in his murder.
They blamed each other (Daim, Mahathir and KuLi) for depleting UMNO’s finances to the tune of between MYR5 billion to MYR 6 billion. Mahathir and Daim pointed the finger at KuLi. He denied the charge of course.
MAK FOON THAN MURDERED JALIL IBRAHIM- BUT DID NOT ACT ALONE
Mak Foon Than is the man who murdered Jalil Ibrahim and he literally got away with murder. There is no doubt about Mak’s role in that murder even though he successfully claimed an alibi. Mak blamed a Korean national who after a thorough investigation by Korean police cleared the man of involvement in Jalil Ibrahim’s murder. That left a gaping hole in Mak’s ‘alibi’ defence. It is now emerging that KuLi had full knowledge of and involvement in the BBF affair with George Tan and the subsequent murder of Jalil Ibrahim.
KULI IS BUT 1 OF MAHATHIR’S 2 HORSES IN THE RACE FOR THE UMNO PRESIDENCY
What KuLi does not say today about money in politics is that beside his dirty money circulating within UMNO, there is also the audacious and generous contributions in cash to UMNO’s internal politics supplied by Tun Dr.Mahathir.
Mahathir has poured millions to date seeking to pave the way for “his candidates” for the UMNO presidency this weekend. One of these is KuLi.
A source has confirmed that cash seized from former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib’s residence recently has been co-mingled with other money circulating within UMNO to buy support for Mahathir’s candidates KuLi and Khairy Jamaluddin. Odd as it may seem Mahathir still seeks to dominate UMNO through KuLi and Khairy Jamaluddin.
We know of at least two aspiring candidates for other positions in UMNO having admitted to receiving cash in exchange for support for KuLi and Khairy Jamaluddin. Money they say came from Mahathir linked UMNO members.
The flow and source of money Mahathir has been circulating in buying votes is distributed by none other than his partner in crime, bagman, entrepreneur Vincent Tan.
CAN KULI BE TRUSTED? WILL THE MALAYS ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE FOOLED AGAIN?
“Never trust a man who lets you down more than twice. Once is a warning the two is a lesson anything beyond that is proof you are an idiot and deserve to lose everything you have.”
KuLi has always been a shadowy and self-centered figure in contemporary Malaysian politics. Having been caught with his hands in the till at UMNO KuLi he has yet to excise his tainted reputation. Not once but on several occasions, he has been morally and legally implicated in financial scandals involving large sums of state money to the extent that he was compromised and exposed to manipulation, blackmail and threats by the likes of Daim and Mahathir.
Mahathir and his team have used KuLi at various times against their adversaries at UMNO. In spite of his Royal pedigree, KuLi has become an undignified political prostitute of the anti-Royal establishment serving both Mahathir and Daim. Today KuLi seeks to lead the party he helped divide, pillage and destroy. But he does not come with clean hands.
Whether the Malays at UMNO will fall for the same trick twice this weekend will be a testament to their own intelligence, dignity and integrity as a people. If they fall for the prince this time it will reinforce what Mahathir has so often said about the Malays being fools and idiots.
KULI’S PRINCELY SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT- A HISTORY OF DECEPTION NEGLIGENCE AND BETRAYAL
“Never give loyalty to people who can’t give you honesty”
In the early 1970’s KuLi used UMNO money to bail out an inveterate Chinese gambler and the owner of the Bian Ching Bank in Sarawak. That Bank was owned by the late Wee Hood Teck. Wee was in debt to Triad of Sarawak. Wee feared for his life and contacted KuLi for assistance. That was the start of KuLi’s links to the Triads.
KuLi paid Wee less than $5,000,000 for 80% of the Bian Ching Bank to help clear Wee’s gambling debts to the Triads. He later sold that same bank to UMNO for a staggering amount more than 3 times its worth and rewarded Wee (and the Triads) in the process with UMNO money. UMNO under Tun Abdul Razak wanted a bank in its portfolio of investments. Tun Razak relied on KuLi’s ‘integrity’ to help in this regard. KuLi instead helped himself selling the bank to UMNO at an inflated price.
Sarawak is the home of the late Wee and George Tan the man at the centre of the BBF scandal. George Tan was also its main beneficiary and like Wee a Triad. The BBF scandal exposed KuLi’s weak underbelly to the Triads. It was a weak link which ultimately led to the murder of Jalil Ibrahim. It also led to the incarceration of Lorraine Osman, the longest-serving remand prisoner in British legal history.
KULI MAMINCO BBF & OTHER SCANDALS
KuLi who many Malays see as a Chinese captive amongst the Malays was also at the heart of the Maminco debacle. He had been covertly working with London tin brokers to undermine and milk Maminco and through it, Bank Bumiputra, Bank Negara and Petronas who covered Maminco’s losses to the tune of billions of dollars. Mahathir did not know about it till it was too late. By then the bird had flown the coup. The local beneficiaries of the Maminco scandal, all Chinese from the tin industry were connected to KuLi.
BAPAK CHINA REVISITED
KuLi now wants Malays to trust him with the UMNO presidency. He has benefitted the Chinese so generously for so long at the expense of the Malays one must ask where his heart and his interests really lie. It is certainly not with UMNO or the Malays.
KuLi was on the payroll of the late metals trader Marc Rich and Lord James Goldsmith who engineered the Maminco scam by trapping a vain Mahathir wanting to play in the big league, gambling away his nation’s assets in a game he could not win.
It was KuLi’s friends who approached the vain Mahathir using David Zaidner as their bait and payload in the Maminco affair. But it was writers Craig E Copetas and the late Barry Wain who researched then published the involvement of each of these men mentioned here in the rape and destruction of UMNO. Each of them benefitted financially from it and personally.
In the end Mahathir rightfully got the blame for what KuLi did on the quiet, enriching his Chinese tin towkay friends from Ipoh at the expense of Malays with money from Bank Negara, Petronas and Bank Bumiputra.
WILL THE RANK AND FILE MALAYS DESTROY UMNO THIS TIME?
The Malays swallowed KuLi’s and Mahathir’s excuses and explanations for these scandals at the time. The Malays have paid a very heavy price for their poor decisions in the past and as recently as on 9 May 2018. Will they fall for it again?
